The victims of Saturday’s explosion at a Revolutionary Guards ammunition depot in Tehran were laid to rest today, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in attendance.
Iranian media report that the families of the 17 victims along with a number of top officials attended the ceremony at Tehran’s Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery.
The Revolutionary Guards have issued a statement announcing that the explosion occurred when munitions were being moved.
One of the victims was Hassan Tehrani Moghaddam, who is reportedly referred to as “the founder of the Guards’ missile program.”
Meanwhile, Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak has been cited for expressing satisfaction with the explosion in Iran.
AFP reported that Barak told Israeli military radio: “I am not informed of the dimensions of this explosion, but it is good if there are more of them.”
