U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has warned against the “unintended consequences” of a military attack on Iran.
”You’ve got to be careful of unintended consequences here,” said Panetta, according to a RIA Novosti report. “It could have a serious impact on the region and it could have a serious impact on U.S. forces in the region.”
He went on to advise further sanctions and diplomatic pressure as the best weapons for dealing with international disputes over Iran’s nuclear program.
A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman had announced previously that any military aggression against Iran would be a “serious mistake” that would pose a danger to not just the region but the whole world.
Iran’s Supreme Leader responded to Israel’s recent military threats against Iran by announcing that Iran will retaliate with “full force.”
Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has also declared that peaceful negotiations are the only way to resolve the international disputes with Iran.
World powers suspect that Iran’s nuclear program may have a military aspect and have demanded that Iran end its uranium enrichment activities to ease international concerns.
Iran maintains that its nuclear program is peaceful and uranium enrichment has to continue in order to provide fuel for its nuclear reactors.
