Soccer players face punishment for “immoral” celebration

An Iranian judiciary official says soccer players Mohammad Nosrati and Sheys Rezai “committed an act against public morality” during their jubilant on-field celebration of a goal, and they should be sentenced to imprisonment and 74 lashes,

The two players are being criticized because the cameras captured Nosrati touching Rezai’s buttocks during their jubilation over the goal.

Valiollah Hosseiny, a Tehran criminal court judge, told the Fars News Agency today that the two players should be indicted.

Hosseiny maintained that “committing inappropriate and immoral acts” in front of thousands of viewers is unacceptable and must be pursued by the judiciary.

Nosrati and Rezai have been heavily criticized by Iran’s Soccer Federation for committing an “inappropriate and shameful” act.

The two have been banned from attending any games with their team. Nosrati has been banned indefinitely and received a 15-percent cut in his pay, while Rezai has been banned from two games and received a similar pay cut.
