Boroujerdi denies allegations of involvement in fraud
Alaeddin Boroujerdi

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the head of National Security and Foreign Policy in Iran’s Parliament who was reportedly arrested for 24 hours last week, has denied any involvement in the great bank fraud case.

Boroujerdi told the Mehr News Agency that he and his children are not involved in any financial projects.

Supporters of the Ahmadinejad administration recently accused Boroujerdi of playing a part in the $3-billion fraud case. They claim he was arrested for 24 hours last week and was only released through the intervention of Ali Larijani, the head of Parliament.

Boroujerdi made no reference to an arrest; however, he confirmed that four MPs have been implicated in the recent bank fraud. He did not identify the lawmakers.

Boroujerdi went on to accuse the “deviant current” of trying to harm the forces loyal to the supreme leadership and “disrupt public perceptions.”

The Iranian establishment has become severely divided, with the ultra-conservative supporters of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei accusing the supporters of Esfandiar Rahim Mashai, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s chief of staff, of leading a so-called “deviant current” against the regime.
