
Iran’s Supreme Court has approved the death sentence handed to four men accused of a gang rape in Khomeinishahr.
The Esfahan justice department announced that the convicts will be hanged in one of the main squares in Khoemeinishahr.
Another three people accused in the case were sentenced to imprisonment and flogging, and another was acquitted.
The accused were charged with breaking into a private orchard in June of this year and raping the women after locking the men in a room.
The reporter who had covered the news was arrested, interrogated for a week and then released. The news of the rape made headlines across the country, and in the face of widespread concern over diminishing public safety, the head of the judiciary announced that the culprits in the Khomeinishahr case would be dealt with firmly and speedily.
