Repeated attacks against police in northwest Iran

Security forces in the northwestern Iranian city of Sanandaj have once again been the target of an armed attack.

Last night, unidentified armed assailants shot at a traffic police vehicle in the capital of Kurdistan province, Iranian media report.

The police officers have reportedly been shot in the limbs and are currently recovering in hospital.

This is the second attack against Sanandaj Police since the start of the Iranian New Year on March 21.

Last Thursday, unidentified gunmen fatally shot an officer and a soldier in this city. Additionally, according to official reports, another security officer and a 14-year-old boy were injured in the attacks.

The objective of these attacks has not been determined, but security officials have vowed to arrest the perpetrators soon.

Last fall several armed people shot at the police station and a police vehicle from the city’s Azadi Square, killing four officers and one bystander, according to local officials.
