Islamic Republic arrests son of opposition leader
Mehdi Karroubi

Last night Ali Karroubi, son of Iranian opposition leader, Mehdi Karroubi was arrested while security forces raided the home of senior Karroubi who has been under house arrest for over a week and confiscated a series of books and documents.

Saham News reports that security forces went to the home of Fatemeh and Mehdi Karroubi and, after locking each of them in a separate room, they began a thorough search, confiscating various documents and also changing the locks.

Saham News reports that there has been no word of the opposition leader and his wife since then.

Furthermore, Saham News reports that security forces also arrested Ali Karroubi’s wife, Nafiseh Panahi, but she was released around midnight.

Ali Karroubi had also been briefly arrested last February, and pictures taken of him after the release show evidence of severe beatings.

Iranian security forces also attempted to arrest Karroubi’s elder son, Hossein Karrobui but they failed to do so because he was not at home.

Pressures on the two opposition leaders, Mehdi Karroubi and MirHosein Mousavi have been stepped up after renewed popular protests staged last week by their supporters.

They have both been under strict house arrest and prevented from any contact from the outside world.

Yesterday, opposition spokesman, Ardeshir Amirarjmand announced that the release of the two opposition leaders from house arrest is one of the firm demands of the Green Movement.
