Iran has arrested the directors and technical managers of two websites, Aftabnews and Fararu.
Jaras opposition website reports both websites have been accused of publishing “falsehoods” about the Bahman 25 (February 14) demonstrations.
The two websites had reported that the interior ministry has issued a permit for the demonstrations on Monday after Turkish President Abdullah Gül “favoured” the move.
The ministry of the interior denied the reports a few hours after they were published.
Aftabnews and Fararu managers have said the news was planted on their websites by hackers.
The Islamic Republic began a new wave of arrests starting a few days before the Monday protests. Several political activists, students, journalists and people close to the opposition leaders MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have been arrested.
On the day of the protests, according to human rights websites, at least 1,500 people were arrested and two people were killed.
