After decades of autonomy under a de facto government, Nagorno-Karabakh has been taken over by Azerbaijan. Since the takeover and ceasefire agreement on September 20th, more than 50,000 people, ethnic Armenians who have been living in the mountainous region have left their homes. Azerbaijan has announced that Karabakh Armenians can stay in the region if they accept Azerbaijani citizenship, a proposal unwelcomed by the residents who see the region as their ancestral homeland. Human rights organizations and Armenians around the world have called on officials to act against yet another genocide. It is said that Nagorno-Karabakh, known as Artsakh by Armenians, is home to over 120,000 ethnic Armenians.
Our cartoon this week sheds light on yet another humanitarian crisis happening before our eyes. It is titled “Nagorno-Karabakh” by Gabriele Corvi. Source: CartoonMovement.
