Mediterranean Sea: A Migrant Cemetery

By Turkish cartoonist Mikail Çiftçi, published on CartoonMovement.com

Since 2014, more than 20,000 people have died on the Central Mediterranean route. But the actual number of people killed on this route is not known. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), report, more asylum seekers died trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea from January to March this year than in the last six years. The United Nations recorded 441 deaths in the first quarter of this year. Many bodies have never been found.

The most recent example of this tragedy: on Tuesday evening, April 11, a refugee boat sank off the Tunisian coast. At least 25 people died.

This week’s selected cartoon is a work by Turkish cartoonist Mikail Çiftçi, published on CartoonMovement.com.
