Zamaneh Media is rolling out the redevelopment and redesign of its primary news platform RadioZamaneh.com. In this series—“future.radiozamaneh.com”—we take you on a journey along with the technical and design decisions that went into this process. We invite you to share your comments and suggestions about the new website, which is available in beta at future.radiozamaneh.com.

Newspaper to magazine
The look and feel of RadioZamaneh.com – Zamaneh Media’s main journalism platform – was starting to age. The first indications that it’s time for redevelopment were not of a technical or design nature. The first indications came from the Editorial Team and touch on the nature of Radio Zamaneh as a journalistic production platform.
Zamaneh Media believes that the strength of Radio Zamaneh lies not in its breaking news coverage but its comprehensive analysis of the news and its research and investigation of developments behind the headlines. The future RadioZamaneh.com is a magazine with the features of a news website but with the focus firmly on the in-depth approach.
Featured Articles
When you visit the future.radiozamaneh.com, up to five featured articles – including Radio Zamaneh’s cover story – draw your attention with prominent visuals accompanied by boldly laid out titles.

Both on desktop and mobile, short news ‘updates’ are displayed below our cover stories and draw less attention than before. Throughout the day, short news articles are published to a daily news feed displayed on a single page in reverse chronological order. These short news updates will no longer be published as separate articles. Zamaneh Media is thereby removing some pressure to keep up with every minor development. This should allow the editorial team to focus less on high turnover news and put its effort instead, on publishing background research and analysis of the news.
The news feed is preceded on the homepage by our long news analysis reports. The reports in this section delve deeper into the actual daily news and give more background information about the important headlines of the day.

And then comes the long-form journalism in sections and topical areas that have long been the strength of Radio Zamanen’s journalism, including politics, society, law, women’s rights, minorities, LGBTQI+, the environment, and the ideas section. In a future enhancement to the new website, you will be able to customize your reading experiences, adding, removing, and prioritizing sections to correspond to your interests and reading preferences.
Canvas for Journalism
When you click to open an article, you arrive at Radio Zamaneh’s new reading experience. Developed for your convenience, the new article layout removes distractions, uses bold typography focused on legibility, and provides a canvas for Zamaneh’s long-form journalism.
This new reading experience was designed with Radio Zamaneh’s renewed focus on investigative journalism, research, and analysis in mind. The platform provides a framework for the implementation of new, experimental storytelling techniques that enable you to take an immersive dive into the stories you care about the most.
