Hossein Zolfaqari, the deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s Security Department in the city of Mamasani in Fars Province, has announced that four people were injured in a shooting incident and 25 people were arrested.
According to Zolfaqari, the incident was not “security related” and involved “altercations between supporters of different parliamentary candidates”.
A number of cities across the country voted in the second round of parliamentary elections today, April 29.
The report adds that the shots were randomly fired, wounding four people.
Officials reports that the city is now calm, adding that with the consent of election organizers, the polls were closed an hour early at 6 pm.
Throughout the week-long campaign, which started last Friday, many reformist candidates were targeted with attacks by conservative forces as they tried to reach out to voters.
