The Tehran police chief says the deployment of undercover morality police has been initiated due to public demand.
Hossein Sajedinia said on Wednesday April 20 that the public expects the police to act against “harassment in the streets” and “inappropriate behaviour and hazardous traffic acts”.
On Monday, he announced that 7,000 “undetectable security police” will be deployed in Tehran to implement the “moral security plan”.
The news spread widely across all social media.
The police chief stressed that the actions of the morality police are completely “legal” and the undercover security personnel will work under direct supervision of the police.
He added that the undercover staff will not confront the public but they will inform the police about public violations of dress codes and other standards.
