Ali Rahbari, the head of Tehran’s Symphonic Orchestra, whose resignation was turned down by the Ministry of Culture and Guidance, says the orchestra needs an independent administration.
In an interview with ILNA on Thursday March 31, Rahbari said the body that provides funding for the orchestra should not be allowed to dictate its artistic activities.
He added that he is in negotiations with the ministry and if he signs his contract by Monday April 4, it would signify that the problems he has raised have been resolved.
He stressed that he wants orchestra members to get regular monthly wages independent from performance seasons.
The Rohani administration has made efforts to dissuade Rahbari from leaving his position as head of the orchestra since he tendered his resignation in early March.
