Jailed Iranian journalist Ehsan Mazandarani, who has been under interrogation by the Revolutionary Guards for months, is suffering from lung problems.
The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran reports that Mazandarani’s prison conditions have been giving him asthma attacks.
The campaign has been informed that Mazandarani is losing weight and has no access to medical treatment despite the aggravation of his asthma.
Mahmoud Alizadeh Tabatabayi, Mazandarani’s lawyer, says the journalist’s trial has been held and they are currently awaiting the judge’s decision. Mazandarani was charged with “collusion and propaganda against the regime”.
Mazandarani is the director of the Farhikhtegan daily and was arrested last November along with other journalists accused by the Revolutionary Guards of assisting “infiltration” by the enemy.
Mazandarani was previously arrested in 2012 in another wave of arrests targeting journalists and was later released on bail.
With 36 journalists and bloggers in jail, Iran is considered one of the biggest jails for media activists.
