Iranian media report that prominent Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami has been released from hospital.
The Mehr News Agency reported on Sunday March 27 that Abbas Kiarostami is in relatively good health and has been released from hospital to convalesce at home. The report describes Kiarostami’s health as “satisfactory”.
Earlier reports indicated that Kiarostami had been diagnosed with intestinal cancer and internal bleeding had put him in a coma.
Iranian media last week quoted Fereydoon Jeyrani, another Irnaian filmmaker, saying that Kiarostami is suffering from intestinal cancer and, following a coma due to internal bleeding, he was under treatment in the hospital.
On March 26, Jeyrani told Mehr that he would not confirm the news attributed to him earlier that week, saying: “The best source for accurate news about Abbas Kiarostami’s health would have to be his family,”
Kiarostami’s family has not spoken to the media about his health.
