Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi says “two terrorist plans” in eastern and northwestern Iran were discovered and defused.
IRNA reports that Alavi told a press conference on Sunday February 27 that “Takfiri forces” planed one attack for February 8 at the country’s southeastern borders and another at the country’s northwestern borders for February 23.
He stated that the ministry had received intelligence that these groups were planning to enter the country to carry out terrorist operations. He added that adequate monitoring of the borders allowed Iran to control and defuse the attacks.
Alavi also announced the arrest of a “four-person cell” with “explosives” that was prevented from “creating disturbances during the elections”.
Iranians went to polls on Friday February 26 to vote for their representatives in Parliament and the Assembly of Experts.
