Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Workers gathered once again in protest on Sunday February 27 at the company office to demand improvement in their working conditions and the payment of their wages.
More than 500 workers protested against the privatization of the company, saying it would be a direct threat to their job security, ILNA reports.
The workers insist that the privatization of the company will lead to its complete closure.
The company is now run by the public organization Modernization Development, which has proposed putting the shares of the company up for sale due to increasing financial pressure.
Fifteen hundred workers at the company have not been paid for over three months.
The workers have staged several protests in the past two years. The Haft Tapeh Sugarcare Workers have one of the most active independent unions in the country. It has been advocating for the workers’ rights since 2008.
