The first court session for the labour protesters of Bafgh Iron Ore Mine was held on Saturday January 1 in Yazd.
ILNA reported on Sunday January 17 that nine miners were indicted in court for “disrupting order and preventing the activities of the mine” among other charges.
Five thousand miners went on strike in summer of 2013 to protest against the privatization of the mine and the planned sale of the mine’s shares to Khuzestan Steel Company. The miners wanted the shares to be sold to their own co-operative.
The nine miners were arrested when the management filed a complaint against them.
Yazd Provincial Welfare has acted as an intermediary to encourage management to drop the charges against the workers at the next court session in 20 days.
