AFP reported on Friday December 25 that Mary Rezaian and Yeganeh Salehi reported that they visited with the Washington Post reporter for a few hours in Evin Prison.

Mary Rezaian wrote in an email that this was the first time she had met with her son in the past year and that she took him some homemade food.

Jason Rezaian, who is 39 and was born in California, has been jailed in Iran for over a year on spying charges. He was arrested together with his wife but she was later released on bail.

The Washington Post as well as U.S. authorities have denied the charges against Rezaian and consistently called for his immediate release.

Rezaian has been tried behind closed doors but has not yet been sentenced. He has been charged with “Gathering intelligence about the country’s domestic and foreign policy issues and collaborating with enemy countries”.
