Yazd University became the scene of the latest attack on reformists reaching out to the public in the lead up to the parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections, when a speech by Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari was interrupted by a group of hecklers who later clashed with university security.
IRNA reports that Mousavi Lari was responding to student questions when a number of hecklers interrupted the session and then attacked him. The report adds that Mousavi Lari was removed from the hall and the students were left to face security.
In recent days, a militant circle spread the word that it intended to stop Mousavi Lari’s speech. Mousavi Lari is a prominent reformist figure.
The interruption of speaking engagements featuring reformists has become a common occurrence in recent months, as Islamic Republic hardliners become more and more intent on preventing reformists from gaining stronger footholds in the two major government bodies facing elections in March.
