Following reports that Iran will be invited to join the talks in Vienna aimed at resolving the Syrian crisis, Iran’s foreign ministry announced that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will attend the summit with a delegation.
Yesterday, some reports indicated that the United States is amenable to Iran’s participation in the meeting, which will take place on Friday October 30 in Vienna.
The foreign ministry report indicates that Zarif has been in constant telephone contact with his Russian counterpart since yesterday.
This is the first time that Iran will be attending the meeting. Iran and Russia have supported the Bashar Assad regime and emphasize that any change in the regime should be achieved through popular vote.
