Iranian President Hassan Rohani arrived in New York on Friday September 25 to attend the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations.

IRNA reports that while Iran’s foreign minister was already in New York with a delegation, President Rohani was accompanied by his minister of communications, science and technology advisers and cultural consultant.
Rohani said he looks forward to discussing regional issues such as the situations in Yemen, Syria and Iraq.
Roman Catholic leader Pope Francis, U.S. President Barack Obama, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are among the world leaders attending this year’s UN General Assembly.
Iranian and U.S. authorities say there is no meeting planned between their respective presidents.
Two years ago, in an unprecedented move, Barack Obama made a direct phone call to President Rohani when he was in New York for the UN General Assembly.
Rohani is scheduled to make his speech on September 28.
