British Foreign Minister Philip Hammond took part in the reopening of the British Embassy in Tehran on Sunday August 23.
Hammond announced that the Iranian Embassy would also reopen in London at the same time.
The Tasnim News Agency reports that the reopening ceremony was closed to all domestic and most foreign reporters, as only BBC reporters were allowed to cover it.
Hammond is reportedly set to meet with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran.
Prior to the reopening of the British Embassy, the Swedish Embassy handled British interests in Tehran.
Diplomatic relations between Iran and Britian will reportedly be at the level of charge d’affaires.
The British Embassy was shut down four year ago after British support for international sanctions against Iran triggered protests in front of the embassy building. Protesters later stormed the embassy, breaking windows and burning documents.
