Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that parliamentary elections will take place in Turkey on November 1.
The German News Agency reports that the Turkish president announced the news on Friday August 21, adding that an interim government which may consist of forces not currently in parliament will lead the country until that date.
Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party lost its absolute majority in parliament in last June’s election and was unable to build a coalition government with the other parties in parliament.
Erdogan hopes to regain an absolute majority in the renewal elections.
The latest polls show a slight increase in the popularity of the Justice and Development party.
