Another land mine explosion in Kurdistan province has claimed the life of a 13-year-old and wounded a 12-year-old, leaving him in critical condition.
The explosion reportedly occurred, according to IRNA, at 6 PM on Monday August 3 near an abandoned army post.
The report adds that the two young boys were herding their sheep in the area when the incident occurred.
Kurdistan province is one of the many western Iranian provinces infested with land mines left over from the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s.
Reports indicate that Ian has six million hectares infested with land mines and at least 20 million mines are buried across Iran.
Western Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Ilam, Khuzestan and Kermanshah are the provinces most affected by these land mines.
