Activist’s letter sparks campaign for mothers in prison

A campaign to support imprisoned mothers has been launched by a group of activists in response to the recent letter from jailed human rights activist Nargess Mohammadi.

Imprisoned Mothers

Mohammadi was recently summoned to serve a six-year sentence, which meant her children had to be sent abroad to live with their father in exile.

In her letter, Mohammadi speaks out against the treatment of mothers in Evin Prison and the order by the Tehran Prosecutor that bars them from simple regular phone contact with their families.

The campaign aims to support the demands of jailed mothers and their right to engage in civic actitism without repercussions against their role as mothers.

The campaign has also launched a Facebook page entitled Campaign in Support of Imprisoned Mothers and calls on such women to post stories of their incarceration.
