Saeed Malekpour, the Iranian web designer serving a life sentence in Evin Prison, has been transferred to Ward 8 of the jail.

The Human Rights Activists News Agency reports that Malekpour has been in Ward 4 of the prison for the past year, and the head of the ward has forbidden any family visits, citing security reasons.
Malekpour’s sister told HRANA that the transfer has come after persistent family pressure, and and they hope they will finally be allowed to visit him once a month in the new ward.
Ward 8 reportedly holds inmates convicted of financial and security offences.
Malekpour, a metallurgy graduate and computer programmer, was arrested in 2008 after returning to Iran from a visit to Canada.
He was charged with “propaganda against the regime, insulting sanctities, the leader and the president, and links to state opposition groups and corruption on the earth”. He was previously sentenced to death but that was later reduced to life in prison.
