A bus carrying Iraqi tourists has crashed down a cliff off the Karaj-Chaloos road. Reports indicate that 25 people were killed, two are missing and at least 13 others were wounded.
According to the Mehr News Agency, medical reports on the condition of the wounded indicate that the number of fatalities may increase.
A search for the missing passengers is in progress, and the injured have been transferred to a hospital in Chaloos.
The tourists had reportedly travelled from Najaf to Mashhad and, after visiting the northern coast, were to visit Qom and then return to Najaf.
The bus accident was reportedly caused by mechanical difficulties in the brake system. The bus tumbled 250 metres, and at this point it’s impossible to pull it out.
Road accidents are among the three major causes of death in Iran.
