Reports from Iran indicate that Zahra Rahnavard and Mehdi Karroubi, opposition leaders who have been under house since February 2011 over the election protests of 2009, both underwent eye surgery on May 27, 2015.

The Kaleme website reports that Rahnavard was transferred to the hospital and had her operation on the evening of May 27. Her husband, MirHosein Mousavi, reportedly was allowed to accompany her. The couple has been cut off from the public and held under house arrest for over 52 months.

Saham News also reports that Mehdi Karroubi, the other reformist candidate who has been held under house arrest separately since February of 2011, underwent eye surgery performed by Health Minister Hassan Ghazizadeh, who is an ophthalmologist.

Reports indicate that both operations were successful and the patients are recuperating well.

There had been high hopes that the election of Hassan Rohani would eventually lead to the release of the leaders of the Green Movement, but so far they remain isolated. There has been continued concern about the health of all three of them, and they have undergone surgery for various other health complications in the past.
