In an initiative by the Association of Women Citizens, a group of Iranian women calling themselves the “Friends of Nargess Mohammadi” gathered at the Tehran home of the prominent human rights activist to express their concern about her health in prison.
The Feminist School website reported on Wednesday May 22 that a number of prominent figures visited the family of Nargess Mohammadi in protest against her arrest, including Gohar Eshghi (the mother of Sattar Beheshti), Faezeh Hashemi, Mehdieh Golroo and Shima Qosheh.
The group issued a statement at the end of their gathering, saying their protests are aimed at all of the current adverse trends and obstacles that make life hard for women all across the country. The statement refers to “anti-women policies” and the arrest of female activists such as Nargess Mohammadi, Bahareh Hedayat, Sajedeh Arabsorkhi, Atena Daemi and many more.
“We have gathered here today to raise our voice and say that Nargess Mohammadi has committed no crime, so release her,” the statement reads.
The statement was signed by 50 activists present at the gathering.
