The Eram Zoo in Tehran will receive a white tiger from Germany, according to a report from the Department of Environment.
Ali Teymouri, the head of Environmental Protection in that department, says the zoo has acquired the white tiger and it will be available for public viewing.
Currently, Iran has a Bengal tiger and is also looking at acquiring a mate for this tiger in hopes they will reproduce at the zoo.
The Department of the Environment has reportedly visited the facilities and given the green light for the transfer of the white tiger.
In March, a Siberian tiger acquired from Russia by the Eram Zoo died from glanders disease, which it had contracted by eating the meat of infected mules. The female Siberian tiger has since been moved into quarantine for observation, and the propagation project of the Siberian tigers is now on hold.
