Rohani takes hardline approach to lifting of sanctions

Hassan Rohani

Iranian President Hassan Rohani said on April 15, 2015: “The world, the 5+1, the Senate, the Representatives, the U.S. president and government should know that there will be no [nuclear] agreement unless the sanctions are lifted.”

Iranian media report that in a speech in Gilan, the Iranian president stressed that the end of these talks and “the time of signing the deal has to be the time for the announcement of an end to the unjust sanctions on the people of Iran.”

He added: “You know well that all European and even American, east and west governments are all waiting for the final agreement because this agreement will benefit all the world and all nations.”

Rohani’s statements comes a day after the U.S. Congress and the president reached an agreement to allow some monitoring of the outcome of the nuclear pact being negotiated between Iran and the 5+1.

Rohani stressed, however, that the U.S. Congress is not a party to the talks and Iran will carry out negotiations will the 5+1 as a group.
