Younes Asakereh, the street vendor who set himself on fire in front of Khorramshahr City Hall after his vending gear was confiscated by city official and he was prevented from continuing his business, reportedly died from his injuries in Motahari Hospital in Tehran on Sunday March 22.
The 34-year-old father of two set himself on fire to protest his treatment by city officials. According to IRNA, city officials had refused to respond to his efforts to reclaim his gear.
While Khorramshahr city officials expressed regret over the incident, they failed to take any responsibility for it and merely urged the public to report to supervisors any lack of prompt service at city offices.
Younes Asakereh also triggered some unrest between the Arab community in Khuzestan and the police.
