Report from Ahwaz indicate that a group of young football fans found themselves in conflict with the police on the sidelines of the football match between Ahwaz Foulad and Saudi team Al-Helal on Tuesday March 17.
Photos of the event show at least one police car set on fire and a number of individuals being arrested.
Arab activists maintain the conflict was triggered by exchanges between the youth and police about recent self-immolation of a street vendor in front of Khorramshahr City Hall.
The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that the police arrested a number of the people in the audience who were wearing dishdasha (local male Arab garments) provoking the crowd into further conflict.
The authorities announced on Wednesday however that all detainees have been released.
