Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham slammed the new report by the UN rapporteur on human rights in Iran, saying his actions are “one-sided, unfair and far from reality.”
INSA quoted Marzieh Afkham saying: “Iran does not take seriously the unprofessional actions of the special rapporteur for failing to consider international rules and principles.”
Afkham said the report by Ahmad Shaheed is being prepared by “forces beyond the mechanisms of the United Nations”.
In his latest report, Ahmad Shaheed states that Iran is committing widespread human rights violations through a high number of executions, violations of prisoner and homosexual rights as well as free press and free speech rights.
Afkham said Shaheed has used “incorrect, illegal, partial and prejudicial methods” to prepare his report, adding that this is not in the job description of a UN rapporteur.
“Iran is well aware of its national and international commitments in terms of human rights and has always shown complete cooperation with international mechanisms,” the foreign ministry spokeswoman said.
