Iranian teachers across the country gathered in silence in front of their local education ministry offices to protest their employment conditions.
ILNA reports that on Sunday March 1, several silent gatherings were held across the country including Tehran, Kermanshah, Qazvin, Ilam, Kohgilouyeh and Boerahmad, Hormozgan, Kurdistan, Fars, Khorasan and Lorestan.
In Tehran one of the teachers gathered in front of Parliament told ILNA that they are demanding an adequate review of their wages.
Teachers are protesting the budget allotted to the ministry of education for the coming year and stress that in view of the ministry of education’s budget deficit, the budget increase for the coming year will not meet teachers’ needs.
Teachers maintain that their wages are effectively keeping them under the poverty line.
Two weeks ago, a petition signed by 6,000 teachers demanding a review of their wages was submitted to Parliament.
