Teachers in several Iranian cities are refusing to attend classes as they continue to protest the lack of attention to their demands.
Zamaneh’s own reporting as well as reports on the Melli Mazhabi website indicate that on Sunday February 22, teachers used social media to coordinate a one-day strike across the country.
According to reports from provinces such as Kermanshah, Fars, Khorasan, Tehran, Kohgilouyeh and Boyerahmad, Kurdistan and Gilan, teachers refrained from attending classes.
Since December, teachers across the country have been protesting the possibility that their wage increase will be just 14 percent despite high inflation rates.
With repeated protests and demonstrations in several cities across the country, teachers have expressed concern regarding the mere 20-percent increase in the budget for the education ministry, while other ministries and government bodies are receiving as much as a 60-percent increase in their budgets for the Iranian new year, which begins on March 21.
