Iran’s Construction Workers Trade Association has issued a statement following the death of eight construction workers in a work accident, taking the Minister of Transportation and Urban Development to task for their deaths.

The letter lays responsibility on the ministry for the lack of proper construction regulations and workplace inspections, disregarding worker safety and putting lives at risk.
On Tuesday February 17, eight workers at a construction site in Isfahan were killed when a load carrier lift crashed from a height of 30 metres. The project involved a 16-storey building. The workers were using the lift to reach the ground, even though regulations prohibit using a load carrier lift to move workers.
Last year, 1,800 workers were killed in workplace accidents and nearly half of them were construction workers.
