Jason Rezaian, the Washington Post journalist detained in Iran, will soon go on trial, the Chief Justice of Tehran has told reporters. He added that Rezaian is in contact with his family and has been visited by them.
Rezaian was arrested last August with three other people including his wife, Yeganeh Salehi, who is also a journalist.
The three other detainees have since been released but Rezaian himself remains under arrest.
Rezaian has dual citizenship with Iran and the United States, and the U.S. has expressed concern about his arrest.
Mohammad Javad Larijani, the judiciary’s human rights commissioner, has said, however, that while Rezaian entered the country as a journalist, “he has engaged in activities which, in the view of security forces, go certainly beyond journalism.”
