Jailed Iranian journalist Serrajeddin Mirdamadi was given a furlough on the evening of Monday January 5. Mirdamadi’s lawyer told ILNA that Mirdamadi has been given one week of furlough on bail of 300 million toumans.
Mirdamadi returned to Iran after Hassan Rohani was elected president. His passport was confiscated at the airport and he was finally arrested last May and charged with “propaganda activities against the regime” and “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security”.
The appellate court reduced a preliminary six-year prison term to three years.
Serajeddin Mirdamadi is a cousin of the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and was a part of the administration of reformist president Mohammad Khatami.
