Two people were gunned down in the city of Sarbaz in Sistan-Baluchistan province on Thursday January 1. Reports indicate that at 4:30 PM local time, two motorcyclists shot the two individuals and fled the scene.
IRNA reports that the vicitims were Issa Shahrakizad, a local teacher, and Adham Sabouri a Basij member. They were shot down while standing in line to buy bread.
According to IRNA, since March, two other teachers have been killed in southern Sistan-Baluchistan, identified as Javad Norouzi and Reza Sargazi.
Sistan-Baluchistan has borders with both Afghanistan and Pakistan, and its border regions have often been the scene of armed conflict with drug smugglers. In recent years, however, armed attacks and bombings sometimes linked to political objectives have been occurring in various parts of the province, making security a serious concern.
