Iran's Department of Environment says military manoeuvers can have significant environmental effects and it has called for the right to consult and attend during manoeuvers in order to assess their environmental impact.
The Islamic Republic Army is currently carrying out the Mohammad Rasoul-allah manoeuver in the southern region of the country.
The Department of Environment announced in November that it has signed agreements with the Navy in order to collaborate on protecting the country's bodies of water.
According to this agreement, the Navy has to cooperate with the department in order to prevent destruction of coral islands affected by water and effluence from navy destroyers and ships.
The Department of Environment is also to be consulted when determining the location of military manoeuvers in order to reduce the impact of such activities on coral islands, which are the habitat of many water species that use the coral reefs for spawning.
