
Three police officers were killed Saturday in an armed confrontation in Golpayegan in Isfahan Province. IRNA reports that on Saturday December 27, Mohammad Hashemi, the deputy head of the Golpayegan police force was also killed and another two officers were injured and are in critical condition.
In addition, three civilians were killed in the armed robbery, according to an unnamed source in the Golpayegan police.
The report indicates that the police have begun extensive efforts to arrest the armed robbers.
IRNA reports that senior officers have not responded to their questions, adding that the police force has convened a special meeting to discuss the event.
Unofficial reports indicate that the robbers had stolen from a bank in Lorestan and went on the run to Golpayegan, where they were confronted by the Golpayegan security forces.
