Iran’s Minister of Oil has called on Iranians to conserve natural gas, saying high gas consumption will disrupt the supply. The minister says the gas distribution system is unstable due to heavy use and he has called on national media outlets to put out public service announcements encouraging consumers to limit their energy use.
Tasnim quoted Bijan Namdar on Saturday saying immediate action needs to be taken to avoid a drop in gas pressure, especially in the cold regions of the country.
The oil minister has reportedly written a letter to the media as well as provincial offices, urging a concentrated effort to instruct households and industry to reduce their gas usage.
The Iranian National Gas Company also warned earlier this year that the sudden drop in temperatures in many regions of the country has led to a tripling of gas usage, which has made the gas distribution system unstable.
