Vladimir Putin told a press conference on Thursday December 18 that world powers and Iran are very close to reaching a deal in their nuclear negotiations.
Reuters reports that Putin stated that once a nuclear deal is reached, Tehran and Moscow can strengthen their economic ties.
He added that the parties have already reached a general agreement and only the details remain.
The Russian president criticized western sanctions on his country, adding that the economic difficulties are the price Russia must pay to preserve country and nation.
He told reporters that Russia would not invade any country and its only goal is to protect its national interests and integrity.
In reference to the ruble’s decline, Putin said these difficulties may be called a “crisis” but his government will take certain measures to remedy the situation.
He predicted Russia’s economic problems would be resolved within the next two years.
