A group of Iranian MPs has been invited by the British House of Commons to travel to London to discuss the reopening of the British Embassy in Tehran.
IRNA reports that according to Iranian MP Abbasali Mansouri Arani, there is much hope that the two countries will open their respective embassies in the coming year.
The Iranian MP spoke in favour of the reopening of the British Embassy in Tehran, noting that Iranians who want a British visa should not face the inconvenience of traveling to a neighbouring country.
In 2011, Britain’s support for international sanctions against Iran drew protests in front of the British Embassy in Tehran. That led to the storming of the embassy and the eventual closure of the British and Iranian embassies in Tehran and London respectively.
Some Iranian hardliners have highlighted Britain’s history of adverse policies against Iran as a reason to steer away from reopening the embassy.
