The head of Iran’s Expediency Council said on Tuesday December 16 that the administration cannot fully report on the depth of the problems it has inherited from the former administration, adding that only “the tip of the iceberg of corruption” has been revealed so far.
ISNA reports that Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani said that despite the far right’s continued criticism against the Rohani administration, the government has managed to move with moderation in accomplishing its objectives.
Ayatollah Hashemi slammed the former government, saying the statistics that reveal the level of corruption in that administration are “seriously disappointing”.
Despite continued revelations of corruption in the former government, many establishment hardliners continue to express support for the former administration, accusing the Rohani government of exaggerating matters.
Iran’s Supreme Leader has also been quoted as saying that criticism of the former administration should not take on “an exaggerated and destructive dimension.”
