Iran’s Deputy Communications Minister says Smart Filtering will be implemented on the basis of “age, profession and the needs of users.”
Mahmoud Khosravi told the Mehr News Agency: “Up to now, the blocking of information was done at the international gateway but now it will be done at the individual level of access and according to the situation of each user, which would involve the user’s profession, age and needs.”
He said information blocking will be tailored according to the identity of the user.
Iranian authorities currently block access to numerous popular websites, and Iranian internet users have to take advantage of proxies in order to break through the internet censorship.
The new administration has tried to provide access to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and has promoted the idea of targeted blocking of the internet rather than the complete blocking of each website.
The Minister of Communication has said so-called “Smart Filtering” would be implemented in six months.
