Iranian human rights lawyer and activist Nasrin Sotoudeh was briefly arrested along with husband Reza Khandan on Wednesday December 10.
Sotoudeh has been staging daily protests in front of the Iranian Bar Association since her licence was suspended, demanding the right to work and dissent.
Reza Khandan reports on his Facebook page that on their way to the Bar Association, their car was stopped by Intelligence Ministry forces and the couple was arrested. Khandan was released at noon, while Sotoudeh was detained a few hours longer.
HRANA also confirms that arrest, saying the couple was arrested while driving to the Bar Association as they have been doing every day.
As today is Human Rights Day, other activists were planning to join Sotoudeh at the Bar Association. The group gathered without her amid the widespread presence of security forces who filmed all the attendees.
Nasrin Sotoudeh has protested against the suspension of her licence, saying the Bar Association bowed to pressure from the Ministry of Intelligence and has no legal grounds for suspending her from practicing law.
